What are Community Health Centers

Community Health Centers (CHC), are community-based health care organizations that provide accessible, affordable primary care services to people and families in medically underserved areas.

CHCs serve patients of all ages and backgrounds, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. This includes patients with Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and those who are uninsured or underinsured.

Access & Cost:

CHCs are open to everyone, offering services on a sliding fee scale for uninsured or underinsured patients, often making them more affordable than traditional healthcare options.

Beyond primary care, these centers often provide specialized care, including:

  • Preventive Care: Screenings and vaccinations.
  • Behavioral Health: Mental health and wellness services.
  • Supportive Services: Health education on nutrition, exercise, and smoking cessation.
  • National Health Service Corps workforce support

Why CHCs Matter

CHCs are an important part of Kentucky’s health care system. They provide a trusted source of care for patients who may otherwise face challenges accessing services. By offering primary care and supportive services in one setting, CHCs help patients get connected to the care they need, close to home.
